Problem
Public health surveillance (PHS) systems capture and manage large volumes of data and information which are further analyzed, interpreted, and used as resources to prevent diseases and promote a healthy population. Public health informatics (PH Informatics) is "the systematic application of information and computer science and technology to public health practice, research, and learning." The importance of PH Informatics became very apparent with the recent COVID-1 9 Pandemic.
Task
a) Explain the potential benefits of informatics to improve surveillance, alerts, and responses to threats.
b) Compare and contrast the difference between a paper-based surveillance system and a moderate public health information network.
