Assignment:
For this assignment, you will be utilizing the Waldorf Online Library as well as your readings. You are to write a two-page paper that is supported by two sources. The title page and reference page do not count toward meeting the minimum page requirement. Be sure to review the rubric before you begin writing. To begin your assignment, find a current news story from within the last 5 years about police officers or departmental corruption. Then, address the issues listed below.
Briefly explain what corruption is and how it relates to ethics. Explain ethics as they affect and influence law enforcement officers. Explain the event reported in the news article. Explain how the event reflects on those involved (e.g., police officer[s], department). Locate a code of ethics for the police department involved in the article (usually found on the department's website), or find a generalized one online by conducting a Google search.
Then, explain which part(s) of the code of ethics that the officer or department broke. Looking from a values-learned perspective, explain what departments should be doing to ensure that officers are learning the values and morals necessary to uphold their code of ethics. Explain the socialization model of moral development as it applies to police officers. Looking at this issue from an ethical standpoint, explain what can be done within the department or county to prevent similar situations in the future.
Note: Do not just respond to each question individually; instead, write your responses in essay form, tying them together into a single, flowing essay. Your essay must be formatted using APA style .
Own words and read it carefully.
