1) Media should be measured against the five reliability factors:
Authoritative
Accurate
Objective
Current
Complete
In your own words, explain what each of these terms means. Then find one online example for each reliability factor. Provide the link and a short explanation of how that media example illustrates that factor.
2) Explain in detail how the radio play creators effectively used at least three (3) of the reliability factors to their advantage to create a sense that this was a depiction of real events. Identify which reliability factor was used and how it was used effectively. You will need to be specific in your explanation.
3) In your opinion, would people have been fooled as easily if there had been television? Explain.
4) Write a well-constructed five-paragraph opinion essay of 1.5 to 2 pages in length that agrees or disagrees with the following question: Three major media points of these two lessons were worth learning or remembering. If you choose to agree then you will select three major points and explain why they were worth learning or remembering. If you choose to write the essay and disagree with this statement, then you will still explain three major points from the first two lessons, but you will argue that they aren't worth learning or remembering. Either way you should identify three major points that you have learned in these first two lessons about media. Each of the three body paragraphs of your essay should explore one of your three major points.
5) Explain how your listening skills are currently effective and ineffective by describing two listening habits that you have: one effective and one ineffective. Explain why the effective listening habit is effective. Explain why the ineffective listening habit is ineffective. Which listening strategy have you learned about in the course so far that you think will work for you? Explain.
6) So far in the course you have listened to three oral presentations:
Steve Jobs's speech
Nick Vujicic's speech
Orson Welles's The War of the Worlds radio play
Compare the three speeches that you have listened to using a graphic organizer. You may construct your own graphic organizer but you must
Compare all three presentations
Identify 4 pieces of key content for each presentation
Explain how the presentation was effective
Explain how the presentation was ineffective
Rank the presentations from 1–3, with 1 being your most informative for you and 3 being the last informative for you.
