Barriers to Critical Thinking
Instructions:
1. Refer to Kirby and Goodpaster (2007), Thinking: An interdisciplinary approach to critical and creative thought, Ch. 2.
2. There are multiple categories of internal barriers such as: Enculturation, Self-concept, Ego Defense, Self-serving Bias, Emotional Influences, Stress, and Expectations/Schemata.
Note: Some of these categories have several dimensions within that category such as: Anger, Passion, and Depression are dimensions of Emotional Influences. Denial, Projection, and Rationalization are dimensions of Ego-Defense.
3. Identify & Describe: two barriers noting the category/dimension
4. Explain how will you overcome this barrier?
5. Remember to cite and reference any information (paraphrased or quoted) taken from your textbook in appropriate APA format.
