Although we often desire to be near features like rivers and shorelines, we take measures and we build a variety of structures to protect our properties and ourselves from the possibility of flooding and erosion. The following table lists some examples of each.

Assignment Instructions:

Review and select one Flood control structure and one Erosion control structure from the table above. For each control structure you chose, respond to the following items:

1. Describe the control structure and its purpose.

2. Explain how the landscape is altered over time due to the control structure.

3. Explain at least one benefit or advantage of using the control structure.

4. Explain at least one drawback or negative impact of using the control structure.

5. Give a real world example of each structure and include a photograph of each structure that demonstrates how it works.

6. List at least one reliable reference you used for each structure. And be sure to credit your photos as well.
