Deltec Limited The company in question is Deltec Limited, a computer, parts, and accessories manufacturer, located in a country called Clacton. Over the last 10 years, Deltec has managed to increase its profitability, due to new government initiatives to focus on technological advancement in schools and organizations, to meet global standards in relevant sectors such as education, healthcare, utilities etc.
While the company has continued to face greater demands, their labour force has not been growing to match this demand, therefor some staff feel overworked. The last collective agreement ended approximately five years ago, and to date the company has been lingering to meet to discuss a new agreement.
Similar companies in the country pay approximately 10 to 15% more than the current Deltec salaries, though Deltec is one of the leading manufacturers in the market with its plentiful government contracts. As greater input is required of staff to meet targets, some areas have been neglected. An example of this is in the production areas, to some extent, there is evidence of an unsafe work environment. With increased hours and no policy for overtime, some staff have begun to see the effects on their physical and mental health, and even family life.
Deltec recently hired a consultant as well that presented certain points, one being that with its current government contracts and general business and home consumer market, the business is not functioning optimally, however improvements can be made, particularly if some reasons behind staff grievances are resolved. Employees to show their discontentment for example, work slower than they are capable, or make errors from being frustrated and exhausted, which directly affects productivity. Increasing conflict has also been noted between employees and their bosses, employees, and customers, and even amongst themselves.
