Explain Emphysema - Histotoxic Hypoxia
Emphysema is a chronic respiratory disease where there is an over- inflation of the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs, causing a decrease in the lung function, and often, breathlessness. In this, the lungs lose their elasticity in degenerative pulmonary disease. The walls between the alveoli breakdown so that the alveoli are replaced by large air sacs. Because of uneven alveolar ventilation, severe hypoxia develops.
