Assignment:social dilemma
We have learned about Sentencing. Some of us have conservative views and some of us have liberal views with respect to the punishment that people deserve.
I want you to make a decision with a person that you love (friend, spouse, child, relative) and has been convicted of first degree murder. He has admitted to the murder to you and has no remorse. He /she is a career criminal, he isn't mentally ill, and has told that he will continue his violent life and will not change if released.
After being tried in court, HE HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO DEATH. PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU WILL SUPPORT THE DECISION TO EXECUTE HIM OR FIGHT TO SAVE HIS LIFE.
First, write one discussion MINIMUM OF 250 WORDS.
Second, Choose two of my classmates' post to make a respond each MINIMUM OF 150 words

This decision has to be a hard one due to the fact that it has to be a person close to me. At times, I believe in the death penalty and at other times I totally disagree with it. To me, I guess it just depends on who it is and what exactly they committed. I watch TV shows or even the news and I get disgusted and upset by hearing that some person has murdered many human being's, then in that case I feel that they should face death penalty. If it were my sibling, spouse, child, or let's say someone who means so much to me and has impacted my life in some way then I would fight to save their life. Obviously if I found out my sibling, spouse, cousin, murdered more than one person or beat a child to death then I wouldn't disagree with the choice of death penalty. Like I said, in my opinion it all depends on what they committed and how bad it was. I am a very forgiving person. I care for others who have impacted my life and even though they admit to never getting better or admitting to murder, I believe that they may have a chance to get better somehow? I wouldn't agree on death penalty and I would 100% support to keeping them alive. Everyone makes mistakes, no person is perfect, everyone has their flaws but I wouldn't wish death upon someone special to me. Yes, I most defiantly agree that they should be punished and sent to jail immediately for the murder they admitted, but I would fight for their life hoping that their mindset will change during time even though they admitted that they are not the same person.

For the reason that everybody has choices in their life of how they want to live life and having that those decisions lead it to being sentenced to death. I will support the decision even if it's a hard decision because I can be losing somebody that I cared about. Knowing that the person has caused great pain in other people's lives, I will not stand in between them because that life style is not what I decided to follow. For the most part having a family member in that mental state where he or she doesn't care for the value of life, there really isn't much we can do to prevent another incident from occurring so to leave it to the court system will be the best option. If a person has already decided how he or she wants to be portray in life then rehabilitation will not any good used as to trying to stop the person. I feel like if I was to ever be in that situation, I would not argue with anybody that is being affected because I'm not apart of the incident. I have a few uncles that have had made their choices to do what ever they wanted and for me to see them getting sentence it doesn't make me feel sorry for them because over all they decided to do what they want without my opinion. I have learned that we can live other people's lives so what ever they decided to do is on them and it should affect me unless I agree with them which for the most case I won't.

Career criminal meaning a serial killer? It depends who they're murdering. If they're murdering innocent people for fun, they're dead to me. If they're murdering people in self defense, I would fight for them but I would be very suspicious as to why they murdered so many in self defense - unless it was multiple murders in one scenario kind of thing. If they're hunting and murdering criminals, like Dexter, then I would also fight for them. I honestly wouldn't mind a vigilante running around killing people. I personally have nothing to worry about because I don't do anything that harms anyone to that degree. Sure I make fun of people and talk shit, but it is never to that extent and it's always to their face; if that makes me look any better. Honestly it might even scare the bratty kids straight. People online love to tell each other to kill themselves because they don't agree with them or because they made a bad play in a video game. It's uncalled for and absolutely ridiculous that people say it so casually. It's always the weak ass people that hide behind a screen because they know they're protected too, they're the type of kid that should've gotten their asses beat when they were in school. Maybe with a vigilante running around people would think twice about what they say/do. Maybe people won't drink and drive anymore because they know if they don't die from hitting something/someone then they'll die by the hands of a rogue batman. I can't imagine doing anything that harms a living thing to the degree of rape or murder, and I can't imagine any of my friends to do such a thing either. I am very picky with who I associate myself with which is why I am 100% okay with a few Dexters running around my town. I won't have to worry about any of my loved ones dying because they aren't stupid; kind of like why would I have a problem with officers searching my car if I have nothing to hide. Of course it isn't as black and white and of course there are corrupt people all over the world, but in a perfect world, that is how I would feel towards this situation. I still feel guilty walking out of the store without buying anything. If they're a good person I'll defend them, if they aren't then I guess they're dead. Sucks to suck

Fortunately, I've never had to experience such a situation where I had to face a loved one who would indulge in that kind of lifestyle. If any of you have seen Breaking Bad, then you can see a similar example through the character of Walter White. He was willing to kill anyone who got in the way of his meth empire. His wife Skyler eventually found out that he killed people and decided to live with him still but she wasn't the same. Personally, I believe it would depend on the situation I'm in. Another great example is Dexter, where Dexter Morgan is a serial killer of evil people who have committed crimes. This I am okay with, and if I had a relative who had a character like his I personally would not rat him or her out. This all comes down to what set of morals is right, and to see the reasoning of the loved one who engages in killing as a career. Yet, its not so easy. What if there were a lot of Dexter's like Sally mentioned? Sure, but eventually things might get out of hand and impersonators who want to follow that vigilante lifestyle might have a moral code of their own. So in other words, there are a lot of factors that come into play when deciding what the right moral code is. And the influence one Dexter can have on society is one that should not be reckoned with. Sure having a Dexter like the one from the show would be pretty great in my honest opinion. But having multiple people with varying personalities imitate him? If they can actually pull off his personality 100% then sure. However, that's not ideally the case because everyone is different. Edited by Stephanie Valencia

In my opinion, their are two things that nothing can compensate for: rape and murder. I don't care if a family member, close friend, wife/girlfriend did it, they deserve the ultimate punishment if they decide to take a life away. I believe I am faithful person, and believe in pardon if he/she repents for what they have done. Otherwise, I am also a reasonable person, and would put myself in the shoes of the family that had someone killed, and would be in support for justice to be made. In addition , if he/admits to not change his/her way, there is no way why we should allow a person like that to walk on the same streets where your parents, friends, and children walk. You can imply that he would have no remorse to take their life away, just like he had no remorse to take away the life of the others. Some people are just too dangerous to have alive and have around innocent people. There's really no point in having them in prison, as they will most likely be given an unusually large sentence that they might just die naturally before it even finishes; it would also be economically cheaper if they be given the death penalty as we in fact pay for prisoners to live, have 3 meals a day, have recreational time, have cell, etc..
