INSTRUCTIONS

Compile a listening portfolio of 20 recordings of musical works from multiple historical periods and genres. Your listening list can include some folk, world, jazz, and popular music, as long as your list represents selections from each of the different periods studied this semester. Selections must be supplemental to required MLP listening selections. You should discuss each recording using objective musical terminology that you have learned in this course, covering elements like melody, harmony, rhythm, form, texture, and timbre.

This paper should be at least 1000 words in length not counting the works cited list. The works cited should include a variety of sources, including at least one source in print. The paper and works cited list should be in MLA format. If you need to brush up on MLA format, here is a good guide.

Your paper should include the following sections:

1. Introduction that prepares the reader for the information to follow.

2. Body that covers every piece in your listening portfolio.

3. Conclusion that wraps up the paper with at least one major take-away point.

4. Works Cited list that includes a variety of sources. You should cite every recording mentioned in your portfolio, as well as any supporting sources that you used in your research. YouTube, Wikipedia and Listen to This by Bonds are not allowable research sources. Research implies reading beyond the textbook.
