Explain and examine a police patrolling strategy

Question 1: As we look at ways to help reduce stress on children and families, there are many sources that will help. Review the information at "Talking with your children about stress," American Psychological Association (n.d.).

Which of these tips provided do you believe would be the most useful?  Why?

Expand your discussion by adding one more idea. Choose from one of the three topic searches below (there are many programs found within each topic area). You will need just one more topic idea, not one from each topic.

  • Search topic- Resiliency Training
  • Search topic- Coping skills
  • Search topic- Stress management (including but not limited to exercise, nutrition, and progressive muscle relaxation)

Question 2: Research the selected(s) topic and present a measure of information about the topic's significance to the current business climate. A minimum of 2 reference sources for a substantive response (approximately 250 words).

Reference sources must be limited to the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, Barron's, Investors' Business Daily, The Economist, or an academic journal article from a respected accounting or finance journal.

Question 3: Explain and examine a police patrolling strategy and analyze the scholarly literature, and report the findings.  You can select from the many choices from foot patrol, patrol car, marine or aviation units, bicycle, hot-spot policing, directed patrol, or many other options. There are many patrol strategies you can choose from this week from foot patrol, mounted patrol, aviation, vehicles, directed patrol, preventative patrol, proactive patrol, marine units, and many others.  Select a type of patrol you really want to learn more about.  From the first basics of foot patrol and getting out into the community to engage with the community to patrolling in vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, and even segways, there are many options to choose from.  The goal of the police department is to make the community safe for everyone.  Changes in technology will allow law enforcement to change as well from using crime mapping, hot-spot policing, and even drones.  Law enforcement should embrace change and technology to support the community and make the community safer.

Question 4: Discuss at least one forensic technique or evidence examination that is considered unreliable or "junk science". It is important to also explain why this type of analysis has been proven invalid and should not be used in criminal investigations.

Question 5: "Blogs" or weblogs provide an easy way for people to post opinions on any subject - including social and work-related issues. Some businesses have established corporate blogs, often written by the CEO or other members of senior management. Some companies have terminated or disciplined employees for what they say on these communication platforms. The best way to handle these concerns is to make clear what the boundaries and expectations of personal blogging might be. An employee blogging policy that spells out the boundaries, including a signed non-disclosure privacy agreement, is the best approach. Wikis, or group editable web pages, can be useful for creating agendas and revising documents and schedules. However, Wikis, like blogs, can cause difficulties in that some people may have inside knowledge not meant for publication, or others may plagiarize sources unwittingly.

1. Do you think companies should establish corporate blogs? Why or why not?

2. Do you think employees should be terminated for what they say on blogs or social media platforms whether inside or outside the organization? Explain the reasoning for your opinion.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Wikis?
