Fatal lactic acidosis may happen more frequently with stavudine than with other NRTIs. Serum aminotransferase activity may enhance with stavudine treatment, and pancreatitis has occurred rarely. Stavudine commonly causes dose-related peripheral sensory neuropathy, which often disappears when the drug is stopped and may not recur when it is restarted at a lower dose.
