INFORMATIVE SPEAKING ASSIGNMENT
CULTURE SPEECH
You are required to explain a significant aspect of a culture different from your own. Possible topics include social customs, family traditions, holidays, clothing, food, religious traditions, sporting activities, funeral tradition, etc... Research is REQUIRED for this speech.
If you have had direct contact with a different culture, you should supplement your library research with your personal experience; however, the speech is not to be a travelogue or a presentation on "My Summer in Europe" or "My Year as an Exchange Student in Brazil."
On the other hand, a speech on how Europeans spend their summer vacations or on the educational system of Brazil would be fine. (You may decide to give this speech alone or with a partner.)
Requirements:
1. 4-5 minutes in length (if solo) 6-7 (if with a partner) I will deduct points from your overall grade if your presentationis under or over the time limit.
2. You are required to research your topic. You will cite at least2 sources (if solo) 4 (if with a partner) during the delivery of your speech.
3. On the day of your speech you will be required to turn in a typed final outline and a typedreference page in APA format.
4. Your speech should be extemporaneous. This means that you speak using a brief, key word notes, rather than writing your speech out and reading it word-for-word from a manuscript. You may be required to turn in the notes you use to ensure they are speaking notes.
5. You are required to use Power Point as a visual aid for this speech.
Requirements for Power Point:
3 slide minimum (This does include the Title Page.)
No full sentences on any slide
Minimum of 3pictures (Can be clip art pictures.)
Background and font color used, and we can see it.
Appearance is an important part of your grade, so you must dress up in business/casual attire. This means that you cannot wear any color jeans. However, females are permitted to wear jean dresses or skirts.
You should also be cautious about being too revealing by wear short skirts or shirts. T-shirts are not permitted. No tennis shoes or flip-flops.
