Abstract

Execution, also referred to as Capital Punishment or the death penalty, is still widely used in the United States despite the fact that at least 140 other countries have abandoned this out outdated and inhumane practice. With the intentions rendering justice for the family and removing the convicted individual from society, it in reality does a considerable amount of harm to the families involved. Along with the fact that it prolongs the grieving process, capital punishment costs the government an exorbitant amount of money to pay for each death penalty case. Money that should be spent investigating the 6,000 a year murder crimes that are left unsolved each year (Hargrove, 2010) and the inexcusable number of people wrongly convicted of a murder they did not commit. According to W.D Ross’s Prima Facie Duties, capital punishment is immoral as people have a duty to not harm or injure others.
