Instruction and Problems

Students need to open Google in another tab or window to test these out as you go along. The browser can be any (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Safari). The following is an example.

Example Problem to Solve:

Your supervisor wants you to get output of the annual enrollment of Wake Tech.

Steps to do:

Step 1: Open up a web browser

Step 2: Go to the site google

Step 3: Input the key words NC largest community college

Step 4: You get the output in the following.

Please make a screenshot of each answer and paste the image in a single Microsoft Word document. Submit the file to Blackboard for credit.

Exercise 1 Search exact phrases using quotation marks
e.g. "an apple a day keeps the doctor away"

Exercise 2 Exclude a search term by adding a hyphen before the word, especially useful when searching a word with several meanings
e.g. apple -phone -mac -technology

Exercise 3 Find information within a specific website by adding site:*url*
e.g. apple site: cnn.com

Exercise 4 Find sites with similar content to a URL you already know by adding related:*url*
