Even though a for-profit company is in the business of making money, many for-profit companies are philanthropic and give back to causes in the community. Pepsi is a great example. Have you heard of the Pepsi Refresh project? Since the public actually "votes" for the programs that they would like to see funded, it really is a collaborative effort. Another example of a very public corporate grantmaking process is Chase Community Giving, which takes place entirely on Facebook (https://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/) and people vote for the charities that they would like to see funded. The 100 "winning" charities share $5 million!
