Discussion:
Therapeutic models
Just like a well-prepared actor might have a "bag of tricks" of acting techniques from which to pull if one technique for achieving an outcome falls short, a well-prepared counselor will have a thorough understanding of a variety of theories and models and how they might be applied in practice, with the goal of achieving specific outcomes.
1. Examine three additional types of models and approaches to couples and family counseling and again consider their strengths and limitations, in order to better serve couples and families in counseling.
2. Consider the similarities and differences among collaborative language-based therapy models, experiential approaches, and cognitive-behavioral therapy models.
3. Reflect on your personal counseling philosophy and how these theories may support or challenge it.
With these thoughts in mind:
4. Compare two therapy models, noting their similarities and differences. Provide examples of under what circumstances you might apply each of the models and what the strengths and limitations are in these circumstances.
