FESTIVAL AND EVENT MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT TASK
Each student will submit an assignment paper (in essay format) that describes in detail the roles and responsibilities of a position in the festivals and events industry (in Australia) they eventually would like to occupy (for example the CEO of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, the stadium venue manager for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, or the Chief Administrator of the Lorne Pier to Pub).
The purpose of this assessment is to:
- Examine the scope and significance of a position within the festivals and events industry;
- Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the scope and significance of the responsibilities of a professional in the selected position; and
- Develop skills in research, critical thinking and analysis.
Assignment Structure for the Individual Assignment-
You might consider, but are not obliged to carry out, the following for your assignment papers:
1. Title Page
With the assignment paper title, provide your name, and your student number, and the date.
2. Contents and List of Figures Page
This page would list all the appropriate headings, sub-headings, and figures contained in the report. These should include the page numbers for quick reference.
3. Introduction
The introduction provides the main ideas to be discussed in the paper. It provides no examples. Write the Introduction last, and then you know what you are introducing.
4. Body of the Assignment
This develops and details the points made in the Introduction, in the order they have been presented in the Introduction. Evidence, causes, and limitations to points should all be explored. All work should be clearly and appropriately referenced.
Suggested headings for this section:
-Overview of the Event in which the Position is located
-Overview of the Position in relation to the Event
- Specific Duties
- Other Duties
-A short biography on the present occupant of the Position
- Include that person's qualifications, and level of communication skill
- How did that person achieve this position?
-The significance of the Position in relation to the local (and perhaps international) Festival and Events Industry
-What attracts you to the Positon or position of this type?
5. Conclusion
Your conclusion should not cover or make any new points. Instead, it should summarise the main points of the report.
6. Bibliography/ References Page
The reference section at the conclusion of the report includes all references cited in the text and only those references. The paper must follow the publication standards as outlined in the Subject Course Description and Handbook. Referencing should include all the books, articles, government brochures, letters, web references etc. that you refer to in your report. You will be expected to refer to the mandatory text and the necessary readings as shown in the Subject Course Description.
