The review included 12 quantitative studies, using 15 different instruments, and involved 3163 participants. The quality of the studies was fair. The APNs' EBHC competence areas were categorized into five segments according to the JBI EBHC model. The studies that examined the factors associated with the EBHC competence of APNs identified shortcomings in assessing confounding factors, which resulted in uncertainty about the factors linked to competence. This highlights the necessity for future systematic, high-quality and comprehensive research on APNs' EBHC competence and associated factors.

The full extent of APNs' competence in EBHC and the associated factors cannot be conclusively determined based on existing evidence. More comprehensive knowledge is needed, as current instruments primarily concentrate on measuring evidence-based practice competence.
