DISCUSSION
1. BIBLICAL SEGUES DISCUSSION
Examine biblical examples of segues to spiritual conversation.
Instructions
In Acts 8, Philip encounters an Ethiopian official as he is traveling. Philip found him sitting in his chariot reading. What prompted Philip to leave what he had been doing in the first place?
What prompted him to go near the chariot of the Ethiopian?
How did Philip respond? How did the official respond? What was the end result?
Prepare to discuss one other example of segues to spiritual conversation that you find in scripture. What do you see as some important principles from these stories regarding how to segue into a spiritual discussion? Share your list of at least 3 principles.
2. FINDING SEGUES EXERCISE
Describe segues leading to spiritual conversation.
Instructions
How do you make the jump from, "I got fired last week" or, "My husband just filed for divorce" to, "The Lord can help you through this..."? This involves both a dependence on the Holy Spirit, and an eye to recognize when He creates an environment in which one can share what Jesus has done in their life.
These segues are all around us and happen on a regular basis, but are often missed. You have to learn to spot them, looking for natural entry points or onramps for you to share what Christ has done in your life or the lives of others
Briefly describe opportunities that have surfaced, at home, work or school, for you to share Christ, whether or not you actually took advantage of those opportunities. To the extent possible, make an in depth survey of the last 6 months of your life, looking closely for those opportunities.
