Healthcare IT Standards Organizations and Policy
Every organization seems to have a different approach to writing its policies for the use of IT, but standards organizations often provide some guidance for the decisions which are made. Why do you think that standards organizations are important to writing IT policy?
Standards organizations are those that set national guidelines and directions for health IT systems and use. Organizations setting standards include the NIST, Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), CMS and its Meaningful Use standards, and voluntary organizations such as the Joint Commission and HL7. Be sure to research at least one of these organizations and mention how it contributes to standards.
What impact do you think there would be for a facility choosing to ignore standards-based recommendations?
