Problem
Suppose Violet attacks Toni with a knife. Toni fights back with such vigor that Violet drops the knife and runs away. Toni picks up the knife and gives chase, eventually fatally stabbing Violet in the back. If Toni is charged with murder, would she be allowed to justify her actions as self-defense? Should she be allowed to do so? Would your answer to either of these questions change if the incident took place in a state with a "stand your ground" law? Explain your answers.
