Even though butanols have the same number of the same atoms, we see large differences in their ability to dissolve water. How do you account for this? How might you account for the much smaller differences observed among the pentanols?
In the experiment we recorded the solubility of alcohol in 1mL of water and of water in 1mL of the following 4 and 5 Carbon alcohols: 1-butanol, 2-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, 2-methyl-2-propanol, 1-pentanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol.
