Respond to this statement: This week during practicum I was able to see a patient whom presented for evaluation after being hospitalized for dehydration. My preceptor and I did not receive any medical records prior to her coming to the appointment so it was interesting to listen and get to the root of the problem. She informed us that she is fixated on weight loss, watching the scale, and a desire to be thin/lose weight which has led her to abuse laxatives. Since abusing laxatives she was admitted to the hospital for observation due to severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. We explored DSM criteria for bulimia nervosa and she did meet the requirements for the diagnosis.
