Respond to this discussion with reference. An experimental research study is one in which an evaluation of experimental drugs, treatments, or interventions takes place. It utilizes randomization as its sampling method (GCU. 2022). An experimental research study was used to confirm whether it was best to utilize machine learning algorithms to decide whether serial dental extraction was warranted. Specifically when determining the treatment plan for delaying maxillary and mandibular dental arches (Senirkentli et al., 2023). The group of 116 patients was separated into two groups based on previous treatment modalities. It was ultimately decided that machine learning methods were constructive in their periodontic treatment plans (Senirkentli et al., 2023).
Quasi-experimental study:
A quasi-experimental study attempts to explain why things are happening without randomizing the study topics or participants. Instead, it tries to explain through utilizing groupings and separation of the participants (GCU. 2022). This type of study was presented by Kumar et al. (2023) when they looked at users of smartphones, tablets, and laptops and the frequency of their use. The overuse has led to text neck syndrome (TNS), where the users are constantly tilting their head and neck forward while using their devices. The participants were all 18-30 years old and were divided into two groups, one group was treated with Cyriax manipulation to see if treatment would alleviate the symptoms of TNS, while the other group was not treated or manipulated (Kumar et.al. 2023).
Non-experimental Research:
Non-experimental research differs due to the lack of manipulation of the independent variables. Research then utilizes the variables that are already there (GCU. 2022). With non-experimental research, since the independent variable is not manipulated, it is not broken into groups. This can also be referred to as observational since it is based on natural groups/ occurrences without any intervention. The experiment is designed by the purpose, meaning if it needs to be prescribed, predicted, or explained. (Glasofer & Townsend. 2021).
