Evaluate the impact of telemedicine on healthcare delivery

Assignment Task: 2- to 3-page paper

  • Analyze the peer feedback you received in the Discussion about your article selection, and then explain how that may influence your article choices in the future.
  • Synthesize the information in your three (3) selected articles to describe, in as much detail as possible, the impact of the policy/policies on your selected HSO. Focus primarily on financial impact, but also describe additional impacts within other domains.
  • Predict the impact of the legislation on your HSO

Purpose of the Publication:

The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the impact of telemedicine on healthcare delivery, focusing on aspects such as patient outcomes, healthcare costs, and access to care.

Author's Conclusion or Results of Research:

The authors conclude that telemedicine has significantly improved access to healthcare, particularly in rural areas, and has led to cost savings. However, they also note challenges related to technology adoption and patient privacy concerns that require further research.

Relation to HSO:

This review is relevant to the HSO as it highlights the financial benefits and operational challenges of adopting telemedicine, which can inform strategic decisions in integrating telehealth services to enhance patient care while managing costs.

Critical Appraisal Tool:

The research critical appraisal tool was used, specifically focusing on the methodology section, which evaluates the systematic review's approach, data synthesis, and relevance to the HSO's operational goals.

Level of Evidence and Quality Rating:

This source is classified as a Level I evidence (systematic review of randomized trials) with a high-quality rating due to its comprehensive data synthesis and relevant application to current healthcare trends.

Article 2: American Telemedicine Association (2023)

Citation:

Relation to HSO:

The findings are crucial for the HSO, particularly in understanding how telehealth can be leveraged to improve access and equity in care while considering the financial implications of addressing disparities.

Critical Appraisal Tool:

The research critical appraisal tool was applied, specifically in the methodology and analysis sections, to assess the robustness of the data and its implications for policy and financial planning within the HSO.

Level of Evidence and Quality Rating:

This source is considered Level IV evidence (government report based on empirical data) with a high-quality rating due to its comprehensive data analysis and relevance to current healthcare policy challenges.

Hi Kelly, you provided a good outline. For the benefit of future readers of your literature review, you will need to use the MEAL plan to develop the information under each heading fully. It contains enough information for your personal use, but not enough to evaluate your prospectus. FYI, Dr. Suz

Telemedicine services remove many barriers that hinder access to healthcare. There are three factors that determines cost-effectiveness of telemedicine: the distribution of costs between stakeholders, the efficacy of telemedicine in terms of patient satisfaction and successful clinical outcomes, and the indirect savings realized through reductions in patients' lost productivity (Anawade, et. al., 2024). According to Gajarawala&Pelkowski (2021), a major obstacle to the widespread adoption and use of telehealth is the lack of significant reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid. Will you be exploring Medicare or Medicaid as barriers as well? Many providers don't offer telemedicine services due to the low reimbursement rate. Medicaid reimbursement is determined by each state, but Medicare (Part B) reimbursement covers limited telemedicine services.

According to Taif (2023), there are three models that are popular with illustrating the factors affecting telemedicine adoption. The models are Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Unified Theory of Acceptance, and the Use of Technology (UTAUT). I hope that this helps!
