LiveWell Hospital is a 500-bed, critical access hospital that schedules between 22,000 to 26,000 visits a year. LiveWell provides surgical, medical, and acute care, 24-hour emergency room services, outpatient services, health education, behavioral services, and home and hospice care. It employs 2200 people, including 275 physicians.

The HIM Director, Ms. Clark, asks to see you, the Assistant HIM Director, in her office to review a possible project for you. LiveWell wants to adopt and roll out a Health Information Exchange (HIE) with several facilities in the northern part of your state. Ms. Clark wants you to attend a hospital department leadership meeting to present advocacy of the HIE and the types of data shared in the HIE from the hospital's system.

In preparation for the rollout of HIE participation, hospital leadership is considering how to inform the community. You will create a community outreach presentation that could be used to explain the HIE and its use to patients and families of LiveWell Hospital. You leave Ms. Clark's office and locate the AHIMA article below and use it to begin your tasks.
