Rational and Alternative Decision Making Models
The rational model is the starting point for most discussions on public-sector decision making. Your readings for this week are a bit dated; however, they represent seminal works in the field. Lindblom (1959) and Hudson et al. (1979) each offered their model of rational decision making and then offered a critique of and alternatives to the model.
For this Discussion, you will evaluate rational and alternative decision-making models.
To prepare:
Review the Learning Resources for this week on decision making. Think about an important situation common in public management that would require thoughtful decision making.
Post a description of a situation in your organization or one with which you are familiar that requires a decision to be made in public management. Evaluate the merits of using rational and alternative decision-making models to address the situation.
