Essay 1 - Summary and Analysis
Read Joy Alonso's "Two Cheers for Examinations" and write a 2-3 page response. Your response should include a paragraph-long summary of the essay and then provide an assessment of Alonso's argument in the essay. The assessment should address the following questions: Did you find the article persuasive? If so, what aspects of the article did you find persuasive and why were they persuasive? If not, which aspects of the essay did you find unconvincing? Why? Be specific. Also, do you think Alonso adequately informs her readers of alternatives to examinations as a means of learning? If so, were her arguments against such alternatives effective? Why or why not? Are there any issues or facts that you think Alonso could have included in order to make her argument stronger and more effective?
