 Erythrocytic cycle
  1. The cycle that takes place in the body of man who is considered as secondary host is called the erythrocytic cycle.
  2. The first stage of the cycle begins inside the red blood cell, feeds on the contents of the red blood cells and grows in size.
  3. In second stage, the parasites inside the red blood cell, feeds on the contents of the red blood cells and grows in size.
  4. In the third stage the fully grown parasites occupy the entire inner space of the red blood cells and are called schizonts.
  5. In the fourth stage, the schizonts divide repeatedly and form 6 to 24 merozoits.
  6. In fifth stage the red blood cell ruptures and releases the merozoits into the blood.
  7. In sixth stage, the merozoits again attack new red blood cells and produce more number of merozoits.
  8. The seventh stage after a few generations some of the merozoits develop into gametocytes in the red blood cells.
