Engineering Design Methodology Assignment
Objective:
The objective of this assignment is to select the right material for a shed to place the "transport for the future". That includes your understanding of Design Requirements:
- Functions: weather protection
- Constrains: ability to be molded, weather resistance (UV), adequate stiffness (>50 GPa) and strength (>90 MPa), outer maximum dimensions (2mx2mx2m)
- Objectives: as light as cheap as possible and 'environmentally sustainable'
It is fundamentally important that the selection process accurately reflect the client's desires.
Assignment Instructions: Working under your consultancy group, you are required to produce a material selection report with a maximum length of 4 pages where should be included:
- Charts for strength and density; and strength and embodied energy to select the material.
- Position your selection line to include one metal and one plastic.
- Cost analysis of potential material candidates.
- Material selection discussion.
- Catalogues and providers research and datasheets.
