Embrittlement
For use, at high strength, coupled with good notch toughness, all weld structure must be Tempered low carbon martensite. Carbon and alloy steels having more than 0.18 % carbon tends to form brittle martensite structure in weld HAZ. This is avoided by controlled cooling rate. The Embrittlement is measured by notch toughness values.
