Directions: Students will analyze a problem using the SARA model and write a report of their findings. Students should focus on a particular crime-ridden neighborhood, beat, or area of the local community. Students should include the neighborhood, area, school, etc. and how they applied each of the steps of the SARA model to analyze the problem: Scanning (Problem Identification), Analysis (Use the Problem Analysis Triangle), Response (Strategy Formulation), and Assessment (Evaluation of Effectiveness). Students will include this assignment in their electronic portfolios. Student presentations should adhere to the following SARA Analysis Report Guidelines:
1. Include a title page.
2. Provide a description of the area.
3. Provide a description of the problem.
4. Include each step of the SARA model (should be at least four paragraphs).
5. Provide a summary to highlight significant concepts of the report.
6. Include a reference page in APA format.
PART II
Directions: Write a two-page research paper on a recent trend or issue in policing (National incident management system, incident command system, immigration, intelligence-led policing, terrorism, etc.). Your paper should address unit concepts identified in the trend or issue.
Additionally, write one-page addressing the following questions:
1. What are the seven elements of police organizational structure?
2. How do CPTED and SCP function to prevent crime?
3. Why are policies, procedures, and regulations necessary in police organizations?
