Assignment Task:
Over the past thirty years, efforts to reduce health disparities in US minority groups between the Black, Hispanic and Latino communities has been an arduous task. Chronic, acute and terminal illnesses such as heart failure, cancer, low birth weight and diabetes are far higher in these ethnic groups than as seen in Caucasian Americans. Studies suggest that Blacks enrolled in Medicare are least likely to visit their primary care physician when compared to White Medicare enrollees due to inaccessible care and social determinants in healthcare. Contributing factors such as income, education, living arrangements social status all affect these individuals far before they're eligible for Medicare benefits. Though there has been a major overhaul in advancements in healthcare disparities, Medicare still finds that though its projected average life expectancy of 65 years has increased, the life expectancy is still significantly shorter for Blacks as compared to whites, (Chartpack,2020). By educating the population on the benefits of preventative care which includes annual diagnostic screening to reduce the occurrence of developing serious health conditions, Medicare can further help in the plight of inequities that are commonly found in Black communities.
