ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF WILD LIFE -
(i) Plants -
- Produce food.
- Provide Timber, paper, gums, drugs, pigments, fibres, rubber, oils, condiments & fuel.
- Release O2.
- Decorate our land scapes and provide pleasing greenery.
(ii) Animals -
- Earthworms & other burrowing animals make soil porous to facilitate plant growth.
- Animals enrich the soil with their excreta.
- Help in pollination and dispersal.
- Provide CO2 for photosynthesis.
- Provide food, fur, wool, silk, leather, musk, ivory, horns, honey, lac, hair, feathers & pearl.
- Some acts as scavanger.
- Used for transport and in agriculture operation.
- Some pay a roles in biological control of pests.
(iii) Micro organisms -
- Act as decomposers.
- Fix N2.
- Help in digestion of cellulose.
- Used in industries producing alcohol, acetone, vinegar, methane, vitamins & antibiotic.
