The value added by the job should exceed, by an acceptable margin, the costs incurred in carrying out the job.
Behavioural Feasibility
A job can have a significant effect on workers' perceptions of themselves and others, and on their social relationships with others. It is, therefore, crucially important that these aspects are taken into account in the design of the job. A full treatment of these issues is given in Managing People in Organisations. In this section we will consider two aspects of the detailed design of process operations: the methods to be employed, and their work content. As we will demonstrate, it was attention to these aspects of business activity which laid the foundations for most of the major advances that have been made under the heading of operations management.
