Economic constraints can limit access to health insurance

Problem: Economic constraints can limit access to health insurance, medications, and necessary medical procedures. Geographical factors, such as living in rural or underserved urban areas, can result in a lack of nearby healthcare facilities and specialists. Cultural beliefs and language barriers may prevent individuals from seeking care or fully understanding medical advice (Lathrop, 2020). Additionally, inadequate transportation and housing can impede attending medical appointments and maintaining a healthy living environment. In my professional experience as a trauma nurse, these issues have profoundly impacted my ability to deliver superior healthcare. For instance, I have encountered patients with low health literacy who struggle to comprehend discharge instructions, leading to repeated hospital visits. Mental health issues often complicate trauma recovery, as patients may be less likely to follow through with post-discharge care plans. Social determinants like economic instability and lack of transportation have also resulted in patients missing follow-up appointments, exacerbating their conditions.
