1. Demonstrate an appreciation of the structural behaviour and design of buildings by carrying out simplified design procedures for a range of structural elements in Reinforcement concrete Design elements and Steel structural elements.
2. Enables the students to obtain a well-structure understanding of stability of structures and loading conditions
Task 1:
Design a Security office of a Oman Embassy which is having size L (m) x B (m) in plan as shown below. Height of hall is H m, which is having the elements of the building like beams, slab and columns, Your tasks is to analyse and designs the each elements of the building as given below and present the Design Calculation, along with Structural detailing with Grade of concrete C & Steel Fe500 in RCC .Assume any other suitable data if necessary. Consider the Variable load as q KN/mm2. Design the following elements
For RCC Design
A] Design of slab
B] Design of Beam
C] Design of Column
The details of the assessment are as follows:
a) In order to find out whether this Hall is stable, students must analyze and design
b) The purpose of this section is to design flexural [Bending] reinforcement of the specified Elements of Building. In order to do so, students must
i. Calculate the structural design calculation and detailing in the form of a drawing
ii. Also consider the diameter and distance of the re-bars reinforcement for the specified area. (Re-bars should be presented per meter of elements of building) just for the slab"
Task 2
Design stand of steel structure on which a Overhead Water Tanks resting of size [bxdxh=1.5mx1.5m x1m] for construction of a Middle East College Security Office. Which includes a beam-column seated on I-shape with struts, tie as shown in figure are connected to the pedestals with fixed supports. Consider the height of structure as H m and spacing between columns is S x L m each. Thickness of water tank is t in m Subjected to have Permanent action of g KN/m and Variable action of q KN/m respectively design the following
For Steel Design
A] Design of Beam [Sta]
B] Design of Column
Purpose of this task is to identify, analyze the forces and design the specific members of the Steel Frame shown in the sketch
a) Design the member A of the truss-beam. (In order to carry out the design of this element, students must consider that truss-beam is seated on the columns with a pin-joined connection.) (axial force must be calculated through analyzing the forces of the frame including support reactions and adding the applied load on the frame )
b) Draw shear-force and moment diagram of the steel frame ( truss-beam may be considered as simple beam for the purpose of this task)
c) Design the member B (column) (axial, shear force and moment must be calculated)
For the purpose of calculation in this problem, students must consider the applied load as follows: q=1.35 DL+1.5LL
