Question: Do you think Jim and Alice made the right decision and did they show professionalism, attitude and time management?
The office is very slow today and many members of the staff are out to lunch. Medical Assistants Jim and Alice stay behind to clean the office up and answer messages. A patient walks in not feeling well and complaining of Shortness of Breath. Jim and Alice bring the patient back to the exam room right away. Jim wants to call the Physician and office manager to let them know what is going on; however, Alice wants to take the patient's vitals and check the pulse ox for oxygen levels first. The patient is having labored breathing and is very pale. After taking vital signs and interviewing the patient, Jim and Alice both feel it's time to call 911 and the Physician. Before additional help arrives, the patient goes into cardiac arrest and the Medical Assistants follow all of their training in CPR perfectly. The patient is taken to the ER and makes a full recovery after additional procedures.
