An information system is a combination of technology and activities that support operations, management and decision making. Information systems is used to describe the interaction between people, organizations, and technology. The way that information systems work is that it gathers data, or input, processes that data, and converts it to meaningful information, or output. The organizational components of an IS are the different levels of a company, like the managerial, professional and technical employees on the top level, and the sales, manufacturing, and human resources under them. The people components of an information systems are the people that work at the company and run it. These are the people that build and maintain the information system and use the information system to meet the companies business objectives. The technological components of an information systems are the computer hardware and software. The different technological components are the computer hardware which are the physical components used for input, like PC's and keyboards and mice, the computer software which are the different programs that a company uses, and networking technology, which the companies use to stay connected and be able to transfer data from one place to another instantly.
