As we study the concept of a target market, we begin to understand how important it is for businesses and organizations to identify their primary market/customers and direct marketing communication towards this group. Over the years businesses have designed strategies to include young children ages 6-9 in their potential target market, knowing that when these children grow into consumers, they may have a more favorable image of the businesses' product. Companies now spend around $16 billion per year advertising to this market segment. Sometimes these strategies can be quite unethical-just google Joe Camel a marketing campaign from R J Reynolds.
o Do you believe that companies are putting too much emphasis on marketing products towards young children?
