Problem
Two recent films, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Don't Worry Darling have both had a fair amount of drama (for very different reasons) around them that did not have to do (necessarily) directly with the film. Pick a film, released in the past year, that had controversy around it and respond to the following questions. The films above are fine to choose.
• Title of the Film:
• Brief Recap of the Issue:
• Why do the writers (using this term broadly) think society should care?
• Briefly describe backlash (if any):
Your insights:
• Should this controversy influence people choosing to view the film? Why or why not?
• Are there societal contexts where an actor's, director's, etc. private lives should influence an audience's decision to view a media product?
• Do you think media coverage has to do with the role film plays in society (see content from text below *) and writers wanting to safeguard this or is coverage merely sensationalism?
• Due to various new technologies, do these controversies have a different impact today on the number of people that will view a film than they would have 10 years ago? Explain.
