The immune system can react in a negative manner in people with allergies or in those with autoimmune diseases. Studies on the effects of food additives, in particular artificial food dyes such as Red-40, Yellow- 5, and Blue-2, have been completed since the early 70's. Many of them show that these chemicals cause cancer (and have other deleterious effects such as allergies, asthma, etc) in animal models but their findings have been discounted by most major countries likely to help maintain their multi-billion dollar food industries.
Task: Do some research into the effects of consumption of artificial food dyes on adults and children, including sites. Should food dyes be outlawed in the US? Why or why not? Will you try to avoid them in the future? If so, how?
