Problem
During the "war on terrorism", a new debate on what constitutes torture has arisen, and we will be addressing these issues. First and foremost, is the application of coercion justifiable given the need to elicit information about pending terror attacks? If the answer is yes, then we must ask do physical and psychological stress methods fall outside this definition? In other words, do the following techniques constitute torture:
Waterboarding, Sexual degradation, Stress positions, Chronic fear, Environmental stress, Sleep deprivation, Disorientation, and Sensory deprivation.
And finally, if used, will they produce actionable intelligence?
