DIVISION PHASE OR MITOSIS (M- PHASE)
Cell division was first observed by Naegeli 1842 in plant cells ,but thoroughly described by Eduard strasburger 1875. Fleming 1879 described . it in animals cells. The term mitosis was given to it by Fleming 1880. Since the most vital significance of mitosis is a precise duplication of genetic material and the latter resides in the nucleus it is advisable to divide the whole process into nuclear division (= Karyokinesis) and cytoplasmic division. Sequentially all changes undergone by a cell during mitosis are divisible in four main phases , viz prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase .
