DISCUSSION 1 (Rachel):

Diversity within an organization can led to vigorous success when it comes to problem solving. Working with multiple diversities in the workplace not only led to solving problems in a timely manner, but also promotes innovation. In the Harvard Business Review article "Why Diverse Teams are Smarter," David Rock and Heidi Grant (2016) support the idea that increasing workplace diversity is a good business decision. A study published in the journal of Personality and Social Psychology showed that people from diverse backgrounds "might alter the behaviors of a group's social majority in ways that lead to improved and more accurate group thinking. This promotes seeing things from different points of view and allows for creative thinking.

In my opinion I feel that teams that are made up of diverse members tend to work together better. I am currently working with a diverse team to complete a project at my current job. We are moving away from doing things on paper and converting over to digital. I feel that because of the diversity it causes us to get together and take everyone seriously. This causes of the to come up with easier ideas that will help complete our project, we make decisions collaboratively, and our work performance is overall better. Not only do we work good together, but no one is taken for granted. Lastly, we all hold each other accountable to make sure we meet our end goals. It was estimated that the project would take 2 years to complete. I can proudly say that if we stay at the pace that we are at we will be finished by early 2025.

Creativity is something that must take place when it comes to change. Change allows organizations or individuals to think creatively when it comes to innovation and problem solving. When this occurs, you will constantly see success and evolving as things tend to change in real life and the business world. This makes me think about how the penguins had to evolve and adapt to change from, "Our Iceberg is Melting". Creativity is super important, and you should not have to be forced into it. Creativity should be seen as a means of improving and promoting growth.

DISCUSSION 1 (Edwin)

Having diversity and creativity within your organization will promote an environment for producing new ideas and recommendations to any given task or situation. Everyone is different at the time of processing any given information and will approach it differently, but this is exactly what is needed to ensure that all the possible solutions are considered to make a sound decision at the end. At the same time, it can cause issues when a lot of ideas have been considered and they need to select one, but in my opinion the leadership should access all the options and make an informed decision to resolve the issue.

Creativity is very important during times of change. When we create, we introduce new concepts that add value to our duties, the way that we perform with teams, and the good benefits that the organization will gain. In my current organization we perform a lot of cause and analysis studies, a method that allow us to find the root cause of the problem and identify the possible solutions to attack it. Getting the "buy in" from others will allow us to see other point of views and to engage in a team environment to ensure a better decision making and problem solving has been achieved.
