The differences between TRICARE select and TRICARE prime that TRICARE select is a self managed preferred provider network plan. Which does not need a referral for most primary and specialty appointments and some pre authorization may be required for enrollment fees, annual outpatient deductible and cost shares as the textbook indicates. On the other hand, TRICARE prime guarantees priority access to care at military treatment facilities that could include their families. In TRICARE prime they have a primary care manager that provides most of the beneficiaries. They are the ones responsible for referring to specialists.
Veterans are covered by CHAMPVA sponsors that could also qualify for their benefits. Any veteran is covered even their families that have lost a member. Whenever they are in need of any medical coverage they could do so by using their CHAMPVA coverage.
My opinion on military coverage is somewhat adequate. I feel like they deserve more than what they offer. Many go through many mental issues after war or just being in active duty. My cousin recently did his four year service and afterwards they don't get enough help like they tend to say before signing up for bootcamp. I feel like those who have lost a member should receive more than CHAMPVA benefits. If this was the case there wouldn't be many veterans out in the streets.
