edipus displays an amazingly high level or irony on all levels, so much so that it can be said that the kind of universe it portrays is an ironic one. It also implies paradox, high levels of ambiguity and a kind of disjunction. Discuss the nature of irony/ paradox/ disjunction in Oedipus, but in doing so remember that it is not simply that you are listing or charting verbal or dramatic irony so much as you are coming to grips with the philosophical implications question. When you work on this, you must have a clear working definition of the terms.
