Assignment Task 1: Pick some disorder/condition that shows unusual or altered patterns of consciousness in some form (do not pick a drug-induced condition because another discussion thread discusses psychoactive drugs). Some conditions/disorders that might apply here: blindsight, schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder), different forms of coma, sleep disorders (e.g. sleep walking, sleep/night terror, REM sleep behavior disorder), etc. These are complex disorders, and you can tell us about their other symptoms too, but focus on the disorder's effects on consciousness specifically. Cite at least one outside source.
Assignment Task 2: Pick a psychoactive drug (e.g. marijuana, alcohol, heroin, LSD or some other hallucinogenic drug, anesthetic drugs etc.) and investigate its effects on cognition and consciousness. You can also include information about its biological/physiological effects on the brain but that's optional. Alternatively, pick another type of activity that potentially alters consciousness (e.g. hypnosis, meditation), and investigate its effects on the brain, cognition and consciousness. Cite at least one outside source.
Assignment Task 3: Pick some concept discussed (e.g. availability or representativeness heuristic, covariation, Type 1 vs. Type 2 thinking, confirmation bias, belief perseverance). Describe at least one real-life event in which you can recognize one or more of these concepts operating (it can be a scenario that actually happened to you or someone else, or a scenario that would be likely to happen in real life). Describe the situation and explain why you think it applies to one or more of the concepts in chapter. (Note that you don't need outside sources for this question, but if you want to use sources, cite them as always, If you take a direct quote from the textbook, then cite it as always).
