Problem: Your firm has promoted you to Senior Visual Analyst. Your first assignment: to give feedback on the website of one of the firm's following major clients:
- Airbnb
- Amazon
- Netflix
- New York Times
- YouTube
Drawing from our readings and discussions about compositional elements, representation, the film Helvetica, and your own personal experience.
Identify, analyze and evaluate the visual "arguments" found on the company's website
Your identification of argument--as well as a critical response to that argument--should be expressed early in the submission and be supported by objective details (using the Visual Analysis toolkit) and subjective interpretation of the images in the website, using Stuart Hall's lecture on representation and Helvetica to enhance your analysis.
Your goal is to assign a larger cultural meaning (or meanings) to the images you see (they are not accidental!) and evaluate whether they are effective for a contemporary buying/viewing public.
Propose changes to the site and defend your reasons for those changes.
This elements should be about 100-150 of the total words and also be supported by your synthesis of the toolkit, Hall's lecture and Helvetica.
