Mediterranea draws upon familiar genre codes, most significantly, from the subgenre of the Spaghetti Western. At the same time, the film subverts and reworks those codes. What are some of the narrative conventions of the Spaghetti Western? How does the film take up and transform those conventions during the showdown that occurs during the protest scene that is the turning point of the film? Compare this scene to the scene from Fist Full of Dollars that appears in the lectures this week. What are some of the most interesting or significant differences between these two scenes in your view?
